Using Hyperlinked Features

The hyperlink tool allows you to open a new browser window based on the contents of the selected feature.

The hyperlink tool is used by setting a layer that contains hyperlink data, as the active layer. You then select the hyperlink tool and click a feature on the map to open a new window.

Currently, only the layers related to traffic counts contain hyperlinks. These links, available through the Main GIS Map and Traffic Counts map viewers, open a JPEG photo taken near the site of the traffic count. This photo provides additional information to the location of the traffic count and the condition of the road where the count is taken.

Opening A New Window
  1. Set the layer with hyperlink data as the active layer.

  2. Click Hyperlink on the toolbar.

  3. Move the mouse pointer to the desired location on the map, then click on the feature.

  4. A new window will open showing the contents at the end of the hyperlink.

Tip: Accessing Hyperlinks

You can also open a new window to the hyperlinked data by querying or identifying the feature(s) in question. The attributes that appear in the query results frame will have a hyperlink that you can select.
